The Himachal Pradesh government will soon recruit specialist robotic surgeons to launch advanced surgical services in the state, according to an official statement issued recently.
A proposal detailing recruitment rules for robotic surgeons will be presented before the state Cabinet for approval. Once appointed, these specialists will perform surgeries and train other doctors in robotic techniques to strengthen in-house capabilities.
During a review meeting with the health department, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu reiterated the administration’s push to strengthen healthcare delivery in the state. "Modern technologies and medical equipment are being installed in all government medical colleges and other health facilities," the statement quoted him as saying.
Robotic surgical services are set to begin at the Atal Institute of Medical Super-Speciality at Chamiyana, which will offer facilities comparable to AIIMS, Delhi.
Additionally, the state will install robotic surgical systems at Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College in Tanda.
Further plans include the installation of robotic machines at Hamirpur Medical College and Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, as part of the state’s broader healthcare upgrade. The recruitment process for paramedical staff, technicians, and support personnel is also underway to enhance the overall healthcare infrastructure.
Chief Minister Sukhu highlighted the need to address manpower gaps in the health sector. "The Directorate of Medical Education will recruit 100 new medical officers, and 50 additional nurses will be appointed at Chamiyana," he said.
