Himachal to Invest INR 1,730 Cr to Upgrade Medical Colleges with Modern Tech: CM Sukhu

According to the Himachal CM, this move would ensure that residents receive top-tier healthcare services within Himachal itself, reducing the need to travel outside the state for advanced treatments.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced an INR 1,730 Cr investment to equip all government medical colleges in the state with modern technology, aiming to transform the healthcare sector.

According to the Himachal CM, this move would ensure that residents receive top-tier healthcare services within Himachal itself, reducing the need to travel outside the state for advanced treatments.

Addressing the media after a meeting with department heads and faculty at Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College in Tanda, Kangra, Sukhu said, “I have held similar interactions with the heads of different departments of IGMC at Shimla and I want that the medical facilities in Tanda Medical College would also be strengthened and prompt treatment to patients be ensured.”

The state government plans to convert Tanda Medical College into one of the leading healthcare institutions in Himachal Pradesh in the coming year.

Sukhu also reviewed staffing needs and sought inputs from faculty on advanced medical equipment and emerging healthcare technologies.

Stressing the need to end long waiting times for surgeries and diagnostic services, he said, “New departments would be opened at the Tanda Medical College and high-end medical equipment would be installed to facilitate the people.”

The chief minister further announced that additional posts for paramedical staff, nurses, technicians, and support personnel would be created to ensure seamless healthcare services. The number of General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) seats at Tanda Medical College will be increased and new B.Sc. Nursing courses were introduced.

Citing recent progress in education rankings, Sukhu added, “In the past two and a half years, significant reforms in the education sector have helped the state jump from 21st to 5th rank in the NAS-2025 survey.”

The government believes these upgrades in healthcare infrastructure and medical education will improve access to quality healthcare and training opportunities across the state.
