Himachal to Invest INR 3,000 Cr in Healthcare Modernization, Replace Ageing Medical Equipment

The health minister directed officials to speed up procurement while maintaining transparency and reliability throughout the purchasing process.

The Himachal Pradesh government has announced an investment of INR 3,000 crore to modernize healthcare infrastructure, replace outdated medical equipment, and strengthen diagnostic services across the state.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil said the initiative aims to improve access to advanced healthcare by accelerating transparent procurement through the Himachal Pradesh Medical Services Corporation Limited (HPMSCL).

Chairing the seventh Board of Directors' meeting of HPMSCL, Shandil said the government is replacing medical equipment that has been in use for 15 to 20 years with modern technologies in a phased manner.

He added that the investment is intended to ensure people receive advanced and quality healthcare closer to home.

The meeting reviewed measures to strengthen diagnostic services by expediting the procurement and installation of advanced medical equipment across healthcare facilities.

Planned purchases include PET scan machines, colour Doppler systems, digital X-ray and mammography units, laparoscopic surgery equipment, digital subtraction angiography (DSA) machines, blood separators, advanced echocardiography systems, ECG machines and cath lab equipment.

The minister also acknowledged HPMSCL's role in making procurement more efficient, noting that the corporation's revised system has replaced the earlier process that was lengthy, time-consuming, and expensive.

He further directed officials to speed up procurement while maintaining transparency and reliability throughout the purchasing process.
