Zocdoc Acquires Sohar Health to Automate Insurance Benefits Verification
The acquisition marks Zocdoc’s first in its nearly 20-year history as the company expands beyond appointment booking into broader healthcare access infrastructure.
Zocdoc has acquired Sohar Health, an insurance technology company that automates benefits eligibility and verification, to simplify insurance checks for patients and healthcare providers. The acquisition marks Zocdoc’s first in its nearly 20-year history as the company expands beyond appointment booking into broader healthcare access infrastructure.
Sohar Health provides application programming interfaces (APIs) that automate insurance discovery, eligibility and benefits verification, network status checks, and cost estimates. Its technology is designed to help healthcare organizations streamline insurance-related workflows and give patients greater clarity about their coverage before booking care.
The companies had already partnered, with Zocdoc using Sohar Health’s technology since 2025 to help patients verify insurance coverage while searching for healthcare services. According to the companies, one million patients have verified their coverage on Zocdoc since the collaboration began.
The acquisition is intended to scale these capabilities across Zocdoc’s platform and its growing partner network. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Sohar Health will continue operating under its existing name and serving its current customers.
“As a physician, it has always baffled me that at the moment people need care most, they have to face a gauntlet just to understand whether their insurance will cover it,” said Ashish Mandavia, M.D., co-founder and CEO of Sohar Health. He added that the acquisition would enable the company to extend its technology to more patients through Zocdoc.
The deal follows Zocdoc’s September launch of Care Access Network, an enterprise offering that allows health insurers, technology companies, and consumer platforms to integrate Zocdoc’s appointment-booking capabilities into their own websites and applications.
As part of that launch, Zocdoc announced a partnership with Amazon Health AI. Its other partners include Google’s Gemini, Yelp, Healthgrades, Blue Shield of California, and WellHive.
Zocdoc says its platform enables users to book appointments with more than 200,000 healthcare providers across over 200 specialties and more than 10,000 insurance plans.
Oliver Kharraz, M.D., founder and CEO of Zocdoc, said integrating Sohar Health’s technology and expertise would help make insurance easier to navigate at the point of booking. The companies expect the integration to support a more streamlined process for patients and providers seeking to confirm coverage and understand benefits before care is scheduled.
