Health Ministry’s U-WIN Hits 96,000 Registrations in Tiruchi

Officials highlighted that U-WIN will improve data consolidation and raise awareness about timely vaccinations, thereby strengthening healthcare delivery at the grassroots level.

The U-WIN digital health initiative by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has registered immunisation details of over 45,000 pregnant women and 51,000 infants in Tiruchi district.

According to District Health Officer Dr VC Hemachand Gandhi, U-WIN is set to transform immunisation record-keeping by capturing data from both government and private healthcare facilities.

“To ensure comprehensive tracking of health outcomes over time, we’ve begun making U-WIN registration mandatory,” Dr Gandhi said.

The district currently operates 2,376 immunization session sites manned by 600 vaccinators. In addition, data from 152 private hospitals are being integrated into the system.

Around 300 village health nurses have been trained to use the platform's user-friendly software for real-time data entry.

Launched in October 2024, the U-WIN system supports self-registration and automatically schedules follow-up appointments. All data is stored securely on cloud servers and linked to SAFE-VAC (Surveillance and Action for Events following Vaccination) to enhance post-vaccine monitoring.

Officials highlighted that U-WIN will improve data consolidation and raise awareness about timely vaccinations, thereby strengthening healthcare delivery at the grassroots level.

Currently, the initiative tracks 12 key vaccines administered to pregnant women and children, covering diseases like tuberculosis, diphtheria, whooping cough, hepatitis (jaundice), H-influenza pneumonia, meningitis, tetanus, polio, measles, rubella, rotavirus, pneumococcal pneumonia, diarrhoea, and Japanese encephalitis.
