Haryana to Map Entire Public Healthcare Network on Unified Digital Platform
The unified digital platform will consolidate information from institutions operating under the Health, AYUSH, and Medical Education and Research departments.
Haryana has initiated the process of bringing its entire public healthcare network onto a unified digital platform, allowing citizens to locate nearby government hospitals, primary health centres (PHCs), sub-health centres and AYUSH facilities through a single digital interface.
The Geographic Information System (GIS)-based initiative is expected to make essential information about public healthcare institutions more accessible while supporting infrastructure planning and monitoring across the state.
The initiative comes as Haryana continues to expand the use of digital technology in public healthcare administration. The state has introduced several technology-driven measures, including the e-Upchar Hospital Management Information System, online outpatient department (OPD) registration, Scan-and-Register facilities, and UPI-based payments at government healthcare institutions.
The proposed GIS mapping exercise extends this digital transformation towards making healthcare infrastructure and its geographical distribution more accessible.
The unified digital platform will consolidate information from institutions operating under the Health, AYUSH, and Medical Education and Research (MER) departments.
Instead of maintaining separate departmental records, the government intends to establish a common database containing the geographical location, basic institutional details, and photographs of individual healthcare facilities.
Additional Chief Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Dr Sumita Misra, reviewed the progress of the initiative, where officials presented the GIS mapping data collected from healthcare facilities across Haryana.
She directed the department to bring the available information together on a common platform and make relevant details accessible to the public wherever feasible.
The Haryana Space Applications Centre (HARSAC), the state's nodal agency for remote sensing and geospatial applications, will provide technical support for managing the GIS database.
The agency will also facilitate the sharing of mapped information with other state government departments, strengthening coordination and enabling wider use of the data.
Beyond helping citizens identify nearby government healthcare facilities, the unified digital platform is expected to support administrative planning and policy decisions.
By presenting healthcare institutions geographically, the system could help authorities assess the distribution of public healthcare infrastructure, identify underserved locations, and determine where additional facilities or infrastructure improvements may be required.
