ABHA-Based Scan and Register Service Crosses 25 Cr OPD Registrations: NHA

Under the service, patients can scan a QR code displayed at participating healthcare facilities using an ABDM-enabled Personal Health Record application.

The National Health Authority (NHA) has recorded 25 crore OPD registrations through its ABHA-based Scan and Register service, formerly known as Scan and Share, since its launch in October 2022. The service currently enables nearly 4 lakh digital OPD registrations every day across the country.

Under the service, patients can scan a QR code displayed at participating healthcare facilities using an ABDM-enabled Personal Health Record application. After providing consent, patients can share their ABHA profile with the facility, allowing their details to be fetched for instant OPD registration without manual forms or registration queues.

The service is currently operational across 30,800 healthcare facilities in 36 States and Union Territories and 756 districts. This includes 24,323 public facilities and 6,481 private facilities, according to the National Health Authority.

Among States and Union Territories, Bihar leads adoption with more than 7.30 crore transactions, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 4.09 crore, Andhra Pradesh with 3.38 crore, and Jammu and Kashmir with 1.39 crore.

Among government healthcare facilities, AIIMS New Delhi recorded the highest number of digital OPD registrations at over 54.29 lakh. It was followed by AIIMS Bhopal with 29.10 lakh, AIIMS Bhubaneswar with 23.93 lakh, AIIMS Patna with 19.62 lakh, and AIIMS Raipur with 18.63 lakh registrations.

The service is deployed across AIIMS, Central Government hospitals, State Government medical colleges, district and sub-district hospitals, community health centers, specialty and trust hospitals, ESIC and railway hospitals, as well as private healthcare facilities.

Dr. Sunil Kumar Barnwal, CEO, National Health Authority, said the 25-crore milestone reflects growing adoption of digital OPD registration among citizens and healthcare providers. He added that simplifying hospital registration has improved patient convenience while supporting operational efficiency at healthcare facilities.

By linking OPD registration with ABHA, the service also provides an entry point to the broader ABDM ecosystem, allowing patients to securely access and share their digital health records.
