Tripura Govt Pushes for Paperless Healthcare, Launches Integrated Health Management Information System
The initiative is aimed at streamlining hospital administration, scaling medical services, and making it more transparent and accessible to patients.
In a significant step to digitise healthcare services, the Tripura Government has introduced a comprehensive digital health management system across the state's hospitals.
The initiative is aimed at streamlining hospital administration, scaling medical services, and making it more transparent and accessible to patients.
The implementation was recently reviewed at a meeting held at Govind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital in Agartala, chaired by Health Secretary Kiran Gitte. Doctors, nurses, paramedical staff and laboratory technicians participated in discussions on the implementation and use of the digital platform
Speaking on the initiative, Tripura Health Secretary Gitte said, “We are implementing an Integrated Health Management Information System (IHMIS) in Tripura. The objective is to make all our hospitals digital and paperless. Currently, 100 per cent of hospitals in Tripura have been onboarded onto the IHMIS.”
According to the Health Secretary, all hospitals in the state have been onboarded onto IHMIS, with the current focus on strengthening its utilisation by healthcare professionals and linking more patient records to the system.
The platform is designed to integrate multiple hospital functions, including outpatient department (OPD) registration, token generation, inpatient department (IPD) admissions, prescriptions, pharmacy services and laboratory investigations.
As per reports, Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Civil Hospital in Agartala is among the facilities to introduce the digital system for the management of access to medical services for patients
The system enables patients to access prescriptions and diagnostic reports through their mobile phones.
Additionally, doctors will be able to access a patient's medical history, including previous prescriptions and physical examination records, through tablets or other digital devices.
The initiative is particularly expected to benefit people from remote areas who travel long distances for treatment.
The government further plans to link patient health records through the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) number.
This is expected to facilitate access to previous prescriptions, laboratory reports, X-rays, and CT scans when patients visit or are referred between healthcare facilities.
The initiative forms a part of the state government’s ongoing effort to improve healthcare delivery through technology. It builds on the government’s earlier announcement to fully digitalise its healthcare services by October 31, with West Tripura designated as the State Model District to accelerate implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).
