Gujarat Completes First 950 km Robotic Telesurgery Using Made-in-India SSI Mantra System

The surgery, a robotic cholecystectomy, was performed remotely by Dr Sanjiv Haribhakti while he was stationed at SSI headquarters in Gurugram, as the patient remained in Ahmedabad.

Kaizen Hospital in Ahmedabad has completed the state’s first robotic telesurgery, spanning approximately 950 kilometres, using the Made-in-India SSI Mantra 3.0 Surgical Robotic System, connecting Gurugram and Ahmedabad in real time.

The surgery, a robotic cholecystectomy, was performed remotely by Dr Sanjiv Haribhakti while he was stationed at SSI headquarters in Gurugram, as the patient remained in Ahmedabad.

The 40-minute procedure was executed through a secure, high-speed network with near-zero latency, while the on-site surgical and anaesthesia teams assisted at the bedside. The patient recovered without complications.

The surgery was conducted using the SSI Mantra 3.0, developed by SS Innovations International. The indigenously built robotic platform has been deployed in 167 hospitals in India and overseas and has supported more than 8,000 robotic procedures, including over 130 robotic telesurgeries.

The system has also enabled intercontinental robotic telesurgery between India and France, demonstrating its stability and scalability.
