Google Expands AI Health Capabilities, Adds Medical Records Integration in the Fitbit App
By incorporating medical history alongside fitness and wellness data, the system aims to generate more context-aware responses and insights
Google has announced a new set of healthcare-focused updates, including the integration of personal medical records into its Fitbit app.
The update seeks to provide users with a more comprehensive view of their health data through AI-enabled tools.
The new capability will allow users to connect their medical records, such as lab results, medications, and clinical visit history, directly to the Fitbit app. These records will be combined with data from wearable devices, enabling a unified view of personal health information.
The update is part of Fitbit Public Preview, which includes access to an AI-driven health coach that provides personalized support to enhance fitness, sleep, and wellness goals. This integration is designed to enhance Fitbit’s AI-driven personal health coach.
By incorporating medical history alongside fitness and wellness data, the system aims to generate more context-aware responses and insights based on users' labs and medical history, in addition to wearable device data.
Reportedly, the tech giant has partnered with b. well and CLEAR to support this functionality. The system enables users to search for their healthcare provider, link their patient portal to Fitbit, or verify their identity with CLEAR, allowing the app to retrieve and organise their records.
In addition, the app is designed to automatically locate and sync records across different providers using IAL2-certified standards.
Further, alongside the medical record linking capability, the company will allow users to connect a continuous glucose monitor (CGM) to their Fitbit through Health Connect.
Furthermore, Google has also introduced improvements to Fitbit's sleep-tracking feature. These include improved sleep stage accuracy and optimized AI-based tracking of interruptions and rest patterns. According to the company, these improvements are expected to enable a more accurate sleep score and actionable insight.
