GIMS Hospital in Collaboration with IIT Kanpur Launches India’s First AI Clinic in Public Healthcare
By combining hospital-based clinical insight with academic mentorship, the initiative aims to accelerate the development of responsible AI-driven healthcare solutions.
The Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) Government Hospital, Greater Noida, has announced the launch of India’s first AI Clinic within a public hospital, scheduled for January 2, in collaboration with IIT Kanpur, marking a significant step in embedding artificial intelligence into routine government healthcare services.
The initiative has been developed under the hospital’s Centre for Medical Innovation (CMI), which operates under the Department of Medical Education, Government of Uttar Pradesh.
CMI is India’s first medical incubator housed within a public hospital and has focused on bridging the gap between medical innovation and frontline healthcare delivery.
Artificial intelligence is increasingly being adopted globally to improve diagnostics, decision support, hospital operations, and patient engagement through AI tools and AI chatbots. However, many such solutions struggle to scale due to limited real-world validation.
The AI Clinic model seeks to address this challenge by offering startups and innovators direct access to clinicians, patients, and hospital data systems under strict governance frameworks.
Applications from innovators have already been invited, allowing early-stage solutions to undergo structured testing before wider deployment.
IIT Kanpur has joined the initiative as the academic ecosystem partner, providing technical expertise, research support, and incubation guidance.
This collaboration is designed to strengthen the link between academic research, MedTech entrepreneurship, and real-world healthcare needs. By combining hospital-based clinical insight with academic mentorship, the initiative aims to accelerate the development of responsible AI-driven healthcare solutions.
The launch event will bring together national and international experts to discuss the evolving role of artificial intelligence in healthcare systems.
By establishing the AI Clinic within a public hospital, GIMS aims to create a scalable and replicable model for government healthcare institutions across India.
