CM Rekha Gupta Calls for Public-Private Partnership to Position Delhi as a Medical Hub
Additionally, five major infrastructure projects worth INR 503.49 crore are underway across government hospitals
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has outlined plans to expand healthcare infrastructure and improve access to affordable medical services, highlighting the need for greater public-private sector collaboration to transform the national capital into a medical hub and strengthen healthcare capacity.
As part of its efforts, the government is also setting up Ayushman Arogya Mandirs closer to residential areas and strengthening healthcare facilities across the city.
Speaking at a recent event, the CM said, “At present, the Delhi government is able to provide two beds per 1,000 people in Delhi, while the combined availability of beds through the government and private sectors is approximately 2.5 per 1,000 people,” she said.
“The government is committed to making Delhi a medical hub and is working extensively in this direction. To achieve this target at the earliest, the government and the private healthcare sector will have to work together so that medical infrastructure can be expanded and people can access better healthcare facilities,” Gupta said.
Talking about Ayushman Bharat, the CM noted that under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, the Delhi government has doubled the central insurance cover of INR 5 lakh by adding INR 5 lakh, increasing the total annual health cover to INR 10 lakh per beneficiary family.
“More than 8.94 lakh Ayushman cards have been approved so far. Over 3.09 lakh senior citizens aged above 70 years have been enrolled under Ayushman Vay Vandana, while more than 5.28 lakh beneficiaries of widow and disability pensions, along with their families, have been covered under the scheme,” the Chief Minister stated.
She highlighted steps taken to enhance primary and secondary healthcare, noting the operation of 415 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs near residential areas and 29 Jan Aushadhi Kendras.
Additionally, five major infrastructure projects worth INR 503.49 crore are underway across government hospitals.
The government has also introduced additional medical facilities, including a Neuro ICU at GB Pant Hospital and 300 dialysis machines across 16 government hospitals.
On digital and preventive healthcare initiatives, CM Gupta reported that over one crore ABHA IDs have been generated in Delhi and the Digital Health Management System has been implemented across 38 government hospitals.
