Bihar Targets Health Screening of Six Crore People, Plans Digital Health Records for Every Citizen

The campaign was launched on Sept 2 and will continue through November 30, 2026, covering all 38 districts of Bihar.

Bihar has launched a statewide health screening campaign targeting around six crore people, with the government planning to create digital health records for citizens as part of an effort to detect diseases earlier and connect patients with timely treatment.

Launched on September 2, the “Jaanch evam Upchar – Chikitsa Aapke Dwar” (Testing and Treatment – Medical Care at Your Doorstep) campaign is now underway across all 38 districts of Bihar and will continue until November 30, 2026.

The initiative was inaugurated by Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary in Patna, with awareness chariots flagged off for the districts.

The state government has set a target of screening six crore people and maintaining their health records digitally so that the information can be used when treatment is required.

Choudhary said the campaign is intended to encourage people to undergo testing before illnesses become more serious. “Get tested so that you do not fall ill in the first place. Timely detection is essential for proper and effective treatment," he said.

“Timely screening makes disease detection and better treatment possible; healthy families are the foundation of a prosperous Bihar,” Choudhary added.

The initiative also includes a separate anaemia screening programme targeting one crore people.

People aged above 30 will be a key focus of the campaign. Health workers will conduct primary check-ups at the community level and provide consultations, with patients requiring further care being directed to facilities ranging from Ayushman Arogya Mandirs to district hospitals.

Screening will cover conditions including diabetes, hypertension, common cancers, heart disease, respiratory and lung-related diseases, and fatty liver.

Alongside the screening drive, Bihar is preparing to launch “Mission Kayakalp” to improve primary healthcare infrastructure.

The programme will focus on upgrading Primary Health Centres, Additional Primary Health Centres and sub-centres, with the stated objective of bringing better healthcare services closer to communities.
