The Bihar government is set to invest INR 1,050 Cr in a major expansion and infrastructure upgrade of Patna's Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) to transform it into a premier super-speciality healthcare institution in eastern India.

Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey recently announced that the rejuvenation plan for IGIMS is in its final stages.

“The state government has made a provision of INR 1,050 Cr to develop IGIMS as a super specialty hospital of eastern India,” Pandey said while laying the foundation stone for several infrastructure projects.

Out of the total investment, projects worth INR 750 Cr are ready for launch next month. Additionally, he added that projects worth INR 300 Cr have already received government approval and will be completed in the coming months.

The hospital is also seeing significant academic expansion, with the number of MBBS seats increased to 150.

Regarding clinical infrastructure, IGIMS currently has 1,700 beds, and the government plans to add another 1,700, effectively doubling its capacity to 3,400 beds.

Among the key infrastructure additions planned at IGIMS Patna are a multi-level parking facility for INR 76.47 Cr, a state-of-the-art lecture theatre to be built at INR 96.36 Cr, a hostel for MBBS students estimated at INR 18.45 Cr, and an eight-storey dental hospital building within the campus, budgeted at INR 91.70 Cr.
