Huawei Smartwatch With Blood Pressure Monitoring Expected to Debut in India Soon

The device employs a method closer to clinical cuff-based monitors, allowing users to perform both single-time checks and 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure tracking.

Huawei is preparing to launch a smartwatch equipped with blood pressure monitoring in India, with industry watchers expecting the device to be the HUAWEI Watch D2 or a similar model.

The development follows recent teasers and a listing spotted on Amazon India, though the company has yet to issue an official confirmation regarding launch date or pricing.

The Watch D2, introduced globally in late 2023, is among the first consumer smartwatches to feature oscillometric blood pressure measurement through a miniature inflatable airbag built into the strap.

Unlike standard optical sensors that only provide estimated readings, the device employs a method closer to clinical cuff-based monitors, allowing users to perform both single-time checks and 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure tracking.

In addition to blood pressure measurement, the smartwatch supports electrocardiogram (ECG), heart rate, SpO₂, sleep, and stress monitoring, along with GPS tracking and fitness features. It features a 1.8-inch AMOLED display and runs Huawei’s proprietary health ecosystem.

Studies published in medical journals have evaluated the Watch D series against traditional sphygmomanometers, with results indicating compliance with several validation protocols under controlled conditions.

Huawei also holds medical device certifications for the watch in certain markets, including approval from China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) and CE certification in Europe.

However, no public record of clearance from India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has surfaced yet.

The Indian market introduction of a blood pressure-enabled smartwatch carries regulatory implications. Blood pressure monitors are classified as notified medical devices in India, meaning that official approval is typically required before products can be marketed for medical use.

Without such clearance, Huawei may limit its claims in India to “wellness” or “health tracking” functions rather than positioning the device as a replacement for medical-grade monitors.

Globally, the Watch D2 retails in the range of €399 (approx. ₹35,500), but Indian pricing remains unannounced. The Amazon India placeholder page currently shows the device as “unavailable,” suggesting retail launch preparations are underway.
