Apollomedics Hospitals Marks 500 Robotic Knee Surgeries, Unveils MISSO Robot
The newly introduced MISSO platform integrates artificial intelligence to assist surgeons with real-time decision-making and individualized surgical adjustments based on patient anatomy.
Apollomedics Hospitals in Lucknow has reached a significant milestone by completing 500 robotic knee replacement surgeries and has unveiled a new MISSO robot, further enhancing its robotic surgery capabilities.
At Apollomedics, this milestone also marks its emergence as the first hospital in Lucknow and Eastern Uttar Pradesh to surpass 500 robotic joint replacement procedures. With the addition of the MISSO robot, the hospital now operates three surgical robotic systems, including two dedicated to knee replacement.
The newly introduced MISSO platform integrates artificial intelligence to assist surgeons with real-time decision-making and individualized surgical adjustments based on patient anatomy.
The procedures have been led by Dr Sanjai Srivastava, Chairman of Orthopaedics, who emphasized the clinical benefits of robotic intervention. The technology enables surgeons to pre-plan operations using 3D imaging and execute them with enhanced precision, resulting in better alignment and functional outcomes.
"With advanced technology coming in, people prefer robotic knee replacements over conventional methods. It is not just the urban population. Patients from Tier 3 and Tier 4 towns, and even rural areas, are specifically asking for this. When we started four years ago, only one out of five people wanted a robotic procedure. Today, every second person walking into my OPD enquires about it and chooses only robotic surgery," said Dr Srivastava.
Patients undergoing robotic knee replacement typically experience less postoperative discomfort and faster rehabilitation compared to traditional techniques.
The milestone was commemorated through a patient-centric event titled “Ruk Jana Nahin,” where individuals who had undergone surgery shared their recovery journeys. Patients spoke about resuming daily activities such as walking, climbing stairs, and maintaining an active lifestyle, reflecting improvements in quality of life.
"Our mission has always been to bring world-class technology to the doorstep of the people of Uttar Pradesh. Crossing the 500-surgery mark under the exceptional leadership of Dr Sanjai Srivastava is a proud moment for our team. Adding a second MISSO robot brings our total to three, reaffirming our commitment to providing the most advanced and precise care in India," said Dr Mayank Somani, MD and CEO of Apollomedics.
"This milestone further establishes Apollomedics as a trusted destination for robotic knee replacement in Uttar Pradesh and advanced joint replacement care. Events like 'Ruk Jana Nahin' remind us exactly why we do this: to see our patients walk, dance, and live without limits," he added.
