West Bengal CM Pushes Real-Time Hospital Bed Monitoring & Health Care System Update
The discussion also included plans to introduce a GPS-enabled app-based ambulance service system and an integrated referrals mechanism between state-run hospitals
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, in a recent meeting with the senior officials of the state, has discussed plans to implement healthcare initiatives aimed at strengthening patient management, hospital coordination, and healthcare delivery across the state.
The meeting focused on healthcare system modernisation through centralized healthcare monitoring framework, including real-time hospital bed tracking,app-based ambulance management, integrated referral systems, and stricter hospital oversight mechanisms.
As per the officials, the state government plans to set up a control room at Swasthya Bhawan designed to monitor hospital bed availability across the state in real time.
The proposed system is expected to reduce admission delays and streamline emergency healthcare conditions management.
In addition, the discussion also included plans to introduce a GPS-enabled app-based ambulance service system and an integrated referrals mechanism between state-run hospitals, central government healthcare facilities, and selected private hospitals to improve emergency response efficiency across the state.
While addressing the meeting, West Bengal CM highlighted the concerns regarding patients being refused admission at hospitals and directed the health department to develop an app to track the real-time location of ambulances.
He further instructed to increase the number of beds in state-run hospitals and install digital display boards showing real-time availability of beds and patient occupancy status.
The latest development comes shortly after the newly formed West Bengal government announced plans to implement the Ayushman Bharat scheme while continuing selected state healthcare initiatives.
The announcement follows PM Narendra Modi’s earlier commitment to reinstate the scheme in West Bengal.
The beneficiaries under the scheme are expected to receive cashless treatment through empanelled hospitals, while state residents covered under Swasthya Sathi will continue to receive benefits through the existing state scheme.
The latest development is also expected to strengthen healthcare access for senior citizens through expanded insurance coverage and integration with national healthcare initiatives.
