Vedanta Aluminium has launched a 24x7 telemedicine facility in Lanjigarh, Odisha, in a partnership with Tata 1mg to improve access to specialist healthcare services in the region.
The facility was inaugurated by Dr. Mukesh Mahaling, Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Odisha, in a virtual event.
The initiative aims to strengthen access to specialist healthcare services for communities in remote and underserved regions of the Kalahandi district by enabling timely consultations with specialist doctors.
Speaking on the inauguration, Health Minister, Dr Mahaling, said, “Vedanta’s 24×7 telemedicine facility is a meaningful step towards improving healthcare access for communities in Kalahandi, especially in remote tribal and rural areas where timely medical consultation can make a significant difference. Vedanta’s broader work in healthcare, education, women's empowerment, and livelihoods reflects how a responsible industry can support the state’s development priorities. Continued collaboration between government, industry, and communities will be important for ensuring inclusive and balanced development across Odisha.”
As part of the initiative, a dedicated Telemedicine Room has been set up at Vedanta Lanjigarh Hospital to support assisted consultations.
Through the Tata 1mg app, beneficiaries can also access free audio and video consultations with nearly 30 specialist and super-specialist doctors, which is expected to reduce the need for long-distance travel for medical advice and treatment guidance.
The facility is intended to bridge critical healthcare gaps in remote rural areas by enabling timely access to specialist medical consultations without the need for patients to travel to urban healthcare centers.
According to the company, the facility is expected to benefit more than 70, 000 people across 70 villages in Kalahandi and adjoining areas.
Sharing his thoughts on the new initiative, Pranab Kumar Bhattacharyya, CEO of Vedanta Alumina Business, said, "With the launch of this telemedicine service, we are enhancing last-mile access to quality healthcare for those who need it the most. Across Odisha, especially in Kalahandi and Rayagada, many such meaningful interventions are rapidly bringing these areas to the socio-economic mainstream of the state.”
“We remain committed to working closely with our local communities and the government to contribute meaningfully to Odisha’s inclusive and sustainable development,” he added.
