UPSIDA-JNPA Pact Set to Turn Lalitpur Pharma Park into a Global Export Gateway
This will enable efficient and cost-effective movement of high-value pharma goods from Lalitpur directly to JNPA, which handles nearly half of the country’s containerized cargo and connects to more than 200 global ports.
The Uttar Pradesh State Industrial Development Authority (UPSIDA) and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) have signed a strategic MoU to transform Lalitpur Pharma Park into a globally connected export hub by linking it with dedicated freight corridors and international maritime networks, enabling faster and more efficient pharmaceutical trade.
India’s pharmaceutical sector, often referred to as the “pharmacy of the world,” exports medicines to over 200 countries and was valued at around USD 50 Bn in recent years. With global demand for generics, vaccines, and APIs rising, infrastructure-led initiatives like pharma parks have become central to improving supply chain resilience and export competitiveness.
The Lalitpur Pharma Park, spread across nearly 1,470 acres, is expected to attract investments exceeding INR 12,000 Cr and generate significant employment. The UPSIDA-JNPA agreement is designed to enhance its viability by ensuring seamless logistics support for both imports of raw materials and exports of finished pharmaceutical products.
A key feature of the collaboration is the integration of the Dadri-Khurja rail link with the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) and Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC).
This will create a robust multimodal transport network, enabling efficient and cost-effective movement of high-value pharma goods from Lalitpur directly to JNPA, India’s largest container port, which handles nearly half of the country’s containerized cargo and connects to more than 200 global ports.
Highlighting the significance of the partnership, UPSIDA CEO Vijay Kiran Anand said, "By partnering with JNPA, we are enabling world-class logistics facilities for our investors. Integration with dedicated freight corridors will allow pharmaceutical manufacturers to access markets with unprecedented speed, significantly enhancing their global competitiveness."
The collaboration is also expected to strengthen coordination between industry stakeholders, logistics providers, and government agencies, creating a more efficient and responsive supply chain ecosystem tailored to the pharmaceutical sector’s complex requirements.
By directly linking Lalitpur Pharma Park to global maritime routes through JNPA, the initiative is poised to reduce transit times, lower logistics costs, and improve export reliability.
