Over the next three years, the initiative aims to serve more than 2 lakh people, offering free OPD consultations, medicines, diagnostic services, and point-of-care testing.

Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak has recently launched four mobile medical units from Lucknow to enhance healthcare access in Uttar Pradesh's underserved regions.

The initiative is a part of the Smile on Wheels program, which is conducted in collaboration with MSD Pharmaceuticals and Smile Foundation.

These mobile medical units will operate across four districts including Lucknow, Sonbhadra, Prayagraj, and Varanasi.

They will join the existing fleet that currently serves Varanasi, Gorakhpur, and Bahraich under MSD’s continued efforts to bridge primary healthcare gaps across the state.

“I am pleased to dedicate four mobile medical units for the needy areas of Lucknow, Prayagraj, Varanasi, and Sonbhadra districts. The units will provide free healthcare services along with various diagnostic tests and other facilities,” said Pathak.

Over the next three years, the initiative aims to serve more than 2 lakh people, offering free OPD consultations, medicines, diagnostic services, and point-of-care testing.

Each mobile unit is equipped with trained medical professionals and designed to promote preventive healthcare, maternal and child health, immunisation, and awareness of non-communicable diseases.

The programme also integrates Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities to familiarise communities with government health schemes and facilitates referrals to higher-level medical services when needed.

Rehan A Khan of MSD India reiterated the company’s commitment to healthcare accessibility in the state. He emphasised the significance of community-based outreach models like mobile medical units in reaching vulnerable populations.

Smile Foundation’s Santanu Mishra said the collaboration reflects a shared mission to “deliver timely, quality care to underserved populations, reduce access barriers, and support govt efforts for healthier, more resilient communities.”
