Union Health Ministry Launches JANANI Platform to Digitize Maternal & Child Healthcare Tracking
The platform is designed to create longitudinal digital health records for women during their reproductive years by capturing service delivery events across different stages of care.
The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has launched JANANI (Journey of Antenatal, Natal and Neonatal Integrated Care), a digital platform aimed at strengthening maternal and child healthcare services across the country.
The platform was launched during the National Summit on Innovation and Inclusivity – Best Practices Shaping India’s Health Future, according to an official statement issued by PIB Delhi on Wednesday.
JANANI is an upgraded version of the existing Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) portal. The platform is designed to create longitudinal digital health records for women during their reproductive years by capturing service delivery events across different stages of care.
According to the ministry, the platform supports tracking of antenatal care, delivery preparedness, institutional delivery, postnatal care, newborn care, home-based newborn and young child care, and family planning services.
The ministry stated that the platform is intended to improve continuity of care through continuous monitoring, real-time tracking, and timely interventions for beneficiaries.
One of the key features introduced under JANANI is the QR-enabled digital Mother and Child Health (MCH) Card, which allows portability and easier access to health records. The platform also includes automated alerts for high-risk pregnancies, due-list generation, and real-time dashboards for supervisory monitoring and targeted interventions.
The ministry said these features are aimed at strengthening service delivery and improving tracking mechanisms at different levels of the healthcare system.
According to the official data shared by the ministry, JANANI has so far recorded 1.34 crore beneficiary registrations. The platform has also registered more than 30 lakh pregnant women and generated over 30 lakh MCH cards.
In addition, over 1 lakh biometric verifications have been completed through the platform to support beneficiary authentication and record management.
The Health Ministry said the digital platform is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen technology-enabled healthcare delivery systems focused on maternal and child health services.
