Telangana to Set Up Cancer Care Centers in All Districts Amid Rising Cases

The proposed centers will be housed within teaching hospitals and offer key services including screening, early diagnosis, chemotherapy, and palliative care.

Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha announced on Sunday that the state government will establish cancer care centers in every district in response to the growing burden of cancer across Telangana.

Telangana is facing a serious public health concern with a worrying rise in cancer cases, with around 50,000 to 55,000 new cases reported each year. These are not just numbers; they impact families, futures, and lives,” said Rajanarasimha, while addressing the 25th anniversary of the Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute in Banjara Hills.

The proposed centers will be housed within teaching hospitals and offer key services including screening, early diagnosis, chemotherapy, and palliative care.

“Early detection and treatment are essential to improving the chances of recovery and saving the lives of cancer patients. The growing number of cases requires us to expand our services and decentralise care across the state,” he added.

The initiative aims to strengthen early detection efforts and widen access to cancer care services across rural and urban regions.
