In a move to strengthen healthcare delivery, the government of Telangana has announced plans to expand AI-powered diagnostic systems across district hospitals.
The announcement was made by Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha during a recent event held at Yashoda Hospitals in Hyderabad’s Hitec City.
Addressing the event, Health Minister Damodar said, “Until now, healthcare systems have largely focused on treating diseases after they occur. Today, with AI, genomics, advanced diagnostic technologies, and digital health innovations, it is becoming possible to predict diseases, prevent them, and deliver personalised treatment tailored to every individual.”
He highlighted that the state government is planning to expand AI-powered diagnostic systems to district hospitals to improve access to specialist-level healthcare services in remote and underserved regions.
The initiative is expected to strengthen healthcare accessibility, improve diagnostic accuracy, and bridge the gap between urban medical expertise and rural healthcare needs.
It is intended to bring advanced medical services closer to people living in remote and underserved regions.
Speaking on the relevance of artificial intelligence (AI), he stated that AI has the potential to significantly enhance doctors’ capabilities and must evolve into a powerful tool in the hands of medical professionals to save lives.
The Health Minister further emphasised that the world is witnessing one of the most significant transitions in medical history, with healthcare moving beyond disease treatment towards disease prediction, prevention, and personalised care.
“AI will not replace doctors. It will empower them to deliver better healthcare. Technology must become a life‑saving instrument in the hands of medical professionals,” he added.
By deploying AI-enabled diagnostic platforms at district-level healthcare facilities, the state aims to create a more inclusive healthcare ecosystem that ensures quality medical care reaches communities regardless of their geographic location.
The event brought together healthcare professionals, medical researchers, technology experts, policymakers, and industry leaders to discuss the growing role of artificial intelligence in healthcare and its potential to reshape patient care in the coming years.
In addition, experts from Google, Microsoft, IIIT Hyderabad, IIT Hyderabad, ISB, Novartis, Stanford University, King’s College London, Medtronic, and TCS participated in the event.
Commenting on the occasion, Dr Chinnababu Sunkavalli, Clinical Director and Robotic Surgical Oncologist, Yashoda Hospital, said, “AI is not merely a technological advancement; it is a transformative force redefining the future of healthcare. AI is playing a critical role in enabling more accurate diagnoses, efficient clinical workflows, and personalised treatment strategies. By bringing together healthcare leaders, researchers, technology innovators, and policymakers from around the world, this conference serves as a catalyst for the next wave of healthcare transformation.”
