AIIMS & NIT Raipur Partner to Advance AI-driven Healthcare in Chhattisgarh
The partnership combines clinical expertise with AI and engineering capabilities to develop innovative healthcare solutions aimed at addressing real-world healthcare challenges
All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Raipur, and the National Institute of Technology’s Business Incubator, NIT Raipur Foundation for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (NITRRFIE), have entered into a five-year collaboration to accelerate AI-driven healthcare research and innovation in Chhattisgarh.
The initiative combines clinical expertise with AI and engineering capabilities to develop innovative, practical healthcare solutions aimed at addressing real-world healthcare challenges and supporting the adoption of AI at the point of care.
As part of the partnership, an MoU was signed between AIIMS Raipur and NITRRFIE in the presence of Dr. N. V. Ramana Rao, Director, NIT Raipur and Board Director, NITRRFIE, and Lt Gen Ashok Jindal (Retd.), Executive Director & CEO, AIIMS Raipur.
Speaking on the significance of the collaboration, Dr N V Ramana Rao, Director of NIT Raipur and Board Director of NITRRFIE, emphasized that the real strength of the partnership lies in converting genuine healthcare challenges into responsible, effective, and scalable technology solutions, expressing confidence that it will set a benchmark for academia, healthcare, and startup collaboration nationwide.
The MoU seeks to establish a framework for joint research, innovation, and technology development, with a focus on advancing smarter, safer, and more accessible healthcare for Chhattisgarh and beyond.
Key Highlights
The partnership has been established under the MeitY IndiaAI Chhattisgarh Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence (AI-CoE).
Set up at NIT Raipur under the flagship IndiaAI Mission of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, with active support from the Government of Chhattisgarh, the Centre has a project outlay of INR 20 crore.
The five-year collaboration will provide a robust operational framework, with AIIMS Raipur expected to provide real-world clinical problem statements and deep domain expertise.
Additionally, the AI-CoE brings its researchers, incubated start-ups, students, laboratories, and high-performance computing infrastructure to build practical solutions
The collaboration will focus on areas including AI-based diagnostics, clinical decision support, predictive analytics, healthcare delivery, and hospital operations.
It is also intended to foster joint research and development, prototyping, internships, hackathons, and skill-development initiatives to strengthen the healthcare AI talent ecosystem.
Sharing his thoughts, Lt Gen Ashok Jindal (Retd.), Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Raipur, reaffirmed the medical institute’s commitment to bringing clinical insight and real-world validation to the table so that artificial intelligence meaningfully translates into improved clinical outcomes, safer patient care, and expanded healthcare access for the people of Chhattisgarh.
