TDB Backs IIT-Guwahati-based Primary Healthtech’s AI-Powered Mobilab Blood Testing Device
The device can test for over 25 parameters, covering critical markers for kidney, liver, and heart health, as well as vitamins, glucose, and even some cancer markers.
The Technology Development Board (TDB), under India’s Department of Science and Technology, has entered into an agreement with Primary Healthtech Pvt. Ltd.
The partnership aims to support the development and scale-up of its IoT-enabled, AI-powered point-of-care blood testing device, Mobilab.
The project, titled “IoT-enabled Point-of-Care Blood Testing Device for Affordable and Accessible Healthcare Powered by AI/ML Algorithms,” is aimed at making affordable, quick, and multi-parameter blood tests available across the country, particularly in underserved areas.
Innovation from IIT Guwahati Alumni
Healthtech Startup Primary Healthtech was founded by IIT Guwahati alumni Sahil Jagnani and Ankit Choudhury and has evolved into a multidisciplinary team comprising doctors, researchers, entrepreneurs, and engineers. The startup operates from Noida and has its R&D center at IIT Guwahati.
Their flagship product, Mobilab, is a portable, battery-operated clinical chemistry analyzer that uses AI/ML algorithms to deliver results quickly.
Reportedly, the device can already test for over 25 parameters, covering critical markers for kidney, liver, and heart health, as well as vitamins, glucose, and even some cancer markers.
According to the startup, Mobilab has undergone trials involving more than 10,000 patients and has secured a manufacturing license from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO).
The startup also holds a patent transferred from IIT Guwahati titled “A transmittance-based system/kit for point-of-care quantification.” It has filed over six additional patent applications, covering integrated mixers, centrifuges, assay techniques, and optical systems.
Scaling to the Next Level
The new phase of the project, backed by TDB, will focus on upgrading the prototype (Mobilab M1) to perform five tests simultaneously, dramatically reducing patient waiting times.
The next-generation version will include tests for hemoglobin, creatinine, bilirubin, cholesterol, triglycerides, uric acid, glucose, and gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT).
Highlighting the importance of this support, Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary, TDB, said, “Providing quality healthcare in rural and remote areas is a national priority. The collaboration with Primary Healthtech will not only support affordability and accessibility but also demonstrate India’s capability to develop indigenous AI-powered diagnostic solutions.”
The founders of Primary Healthtech welcomed the partnership, saying, “TDB’s backing will accelerate the journey from lab-scale innovation to large-scale deployment, helping bridge healthcare disparities in underserved areas across India.”
The initiative is in line with the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision of building self-reliance in critical healthcare technologies.
