RailTel Wins INR 56.71 Cr Project to Digitize Health Services Across Seven Assam Medical Colleges
RailTel plans to deploy a web-based, multi-module HMIS designed to digitize health processes across clinical, diagnostic, and administrative functions.
RailTel Corporation of India has secured an INR 56.71 Cr order from the Assam government to digitize health operations across seven state-run medical college hospitals by deploying a unified Hospital Management Information System.
The initiative has been anchored in Assam’s broader efforts to digitise health infrastructure and improve service delivery in government hospitals.
RailTel, a Navratna central public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Railways, operates one of India’s largest neutral telecom infrastructure networks and has been expanding its footprint in IT and digital solutions for government and public sector clients.
Under the project, RailTel plans to deploy a web-based, multi-module HMIS designed to digitise health processes across clinical, diagnostic, and administrative functions.
The HMIS will be integrated with medical and diagnostic equipment to ensure seamless data flow across departments and laboratories.
The system would enable patients to access their medical records digitally, including through mobile devices, supporting faster registration, reduced waiting times, and improved continuity of care.
For doctors, the platform would provide real-time access to comprehensive clinical data and decision-support tools, helping improve accuracy and timeliness in treatment.
Hospital administrators are expected to benefit from structured data outputs that support operational planning, monitoring, and policy decisions.
According to RailTel, this integration is expected to reduce duplication, minimise errors, and ease the administrative burden on healthcare staff, allowing providers to focus more on patient care.
Multi-hospital features built into the system will also enable cross-consultation and collaboration among institutions, an important capability for teaching hospitals and referral networks.
The seven institutions covered under the project are Assam Medical College Hospital in Dibrugarh, Guwahati Medical College Hospital, Silchar Medical College Hospital in Cachar, Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College Hospital in Barpeta, Tezpur Medical College Hospital, Lakhimpur Medical College Hospital, and Diphu Medical College Hospital.
The project has a total duration of seven years. This includes 78 weeks for implementation, followed by a six-month software stabilisation period after the final hospital goes live.
RailTel will then provide three years of operations and maintenance support, along with an additional two years of extended on-site support.
