All 383 government health facilities in Raigad have implemented ABDM-enabled HMIS, while efforts are underway to bring more private healthcare institutions onto ABDM-compliant platforms.

Maharashtra’s Raigad, formerly known as the Colaba district, has been designated as a ‘Model District’ under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).

The move seeks to expand digital healthcare services, strengthen health record integration and create a more connected healthcare ecosystem across the district.

“ABDM Model Districts” are envisioned as practical demonstrations of how digital health infrastructure can be successfully implemented at the district level through coordinated participation from healthcare facilities, healthcare professionals and citizens.

The district already has a strong foundation for digital health adoption. All 383 government health facilities in Raigad have implemented ABDM-enabled Hospital Management Information Systems (HMIS), while efforts are underway to bring more private healthcare institutions onto ABDM-compliant platforms.

The initiative received a major push during the Raigad ABDM Model District Workshop held in Panvel, where senior officials from the National Health Authority (NHA), the Government of Maharashtra and the district administration came together to outline the roadmap for implementation.

The workshop was inaugurated by Dr Sunil Barnwal, Chief Executive Officer of the NHA.

Highlighting the district’s potential, Dr Barnwal said Raigad could emerge as a benchmark for large-scale ABDM implementation in Maharashtra.

He emphasised the need to accelerate health record linkage, strengthen paperless clinical workflows and increase participation from both public and private healthcare providers to create a patient-centric digital health ecosystem.

Dr Pankaj Arora, Director, ABDM, NHA, presented an overview of the mission’s progress across the country and reviewed Raigad’s implementation status.

He also outlined priority areas that could help accelerate adoption and strengthen ABDM-enabled healthcare delivery throughout the district.

Officials believe that lessons learned from Raigad could help guide similar initiatives elsewhere in Maharashtra and across India.

With support from national, state and district-level stakeholders, Raigad’s designation as a ‘Model District’ is expected to serve as a testbed for deeper adoption of digital health technologies and a blueprint for scaling the ABDM across the country.
