PGI Chandigarh to Launch ‘Margdarshan’ App for Seamless Hospital Navigation

The system incorporates technologies such as augmented reality and 3D mapping to support indoor navigation, where conventional GPS-based systems are less effective.

Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, is set to introduce a mobile application, “PGI Margdarshan”, aimed at helping patients and visitors navigate its campus in Chandigarh.

The proposed application is designed to improve efficiency and patient experience by offering location-based guidance.

The app was developed by Dr Anurag Snehi Ramawat, in coordination with her team, including Prakamya Gupta, Jitender Gairolla, Naveen Pandey, Dheeraj Khurana, and Gaurav Rattan, from the ENT department.

The system incorporates technologies such as augmented reality and 3D mapping to support indoor navigation, where conventional GPS-based systems are less effective.

In addition, the system enables users to scan QR codes placed at key locations, such as entry points and corridors, to identify their position and receive directions.

The app seeks to provide step-by-step directions, voice guidance, and real-time navigation assistance. It also calculates the estimated arrival time based on speed adjustment, and includes a multilingual interface and AI chatbot support.

The application is expected to cover patient-accessible areas, including outpatient departments and common service zones.

The project received an INR 42 Lakh funding from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Furthermore, the app is anticipated to be available on both Apple iOS and the Google Play Store towards the end of April and will help patients and attendants find exact locations in the tertiary care hospital, spread over 277 acres of land.
