Nine Louisiana Health Systems Launch Epic’s MyChart Central for Unified Patient Access

Through MyChart Central, patients can use a single Epic-issued ID to log in to MyChart for all Louisiana organizations using Epic, eliminating the need to manage multiple usernames and passwords.

Nine Louisiana health systems have gone live with Epic’s new MyChart Central feature, marking the first statewide rollout of the tool designed to simplify patient access to medical records across providers.

Through MyChart Central, patients can use a single Epic-issued ID to log in to MyChart for all Louisiana organizations using Epic, eliminating the need to manage multiple usernames and passwords.

Patients can register for the feature at Central.MyChart.org.

"Patients will be able to have one MyChart login that pulls their health data together from the multiple different sites of care, and be able to use that login consistently across organizations," said Seth Hain, Epic’s senior vice president of R&D, during the company’s Open@Epic conference in September.

Louisiana’s launch follows a citywide rollout in Madison, Wisconsin, Epic’s home base. Other health systems, including UW Health, Group Health Cooperative, UnityPoint Health, and SSM Health, have also implemented the tool. The nationwide rollout is expected to be completed later this year, according to Hain.

“Health systems throughout Louisiana came together to deliver a simpler, more connected experience for patients,” said Trevor Berceau, Epic’s director of R&D. “Louisiana is leading the way and helping to shape how MyChart Central helps people everywhere.”

Bruce Greenstein, secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health, said the collaboration marks a step forward in improving statewide healthcare access. “Too often, the burden is placed on the patient, and I’m thankful that many of our health systems teamed up, worked together, and made an aspect of healthcare easier on our patients,” he said.

Participating organizations include Baton Rouge General, Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health System, Lake Charles Memorial Health System, LCMC Health, North Oaks Health System, Ochsner Health System, St. Tammany Parish Hospital, Terrebonne General Medical Center, and Woman’s Hospital.

More than 2.5 million Louisianans currently use MyChart to manage appointments, access test results, message providers, and pay bills. MyChart Central enhances this experience with password-free logins and biometric options such as face and fingerprint recognition.

“As CIO for LCMC Health, I’m thrilled to see Louisiana leading the way in digital healthcare innovation,” said David Singer, the system’s chief information officer. “MyChart Central empowers our patients with secure, streamlined access to their medical information, no matter where they receive care.”

Greenstein added that the collaboration among Louisiana health systems supports a broader commitment to strengthen the health technology ecosystem in coordination with federal partners.
