Humana’s Insurance Data Now Accessible via Epic MyChart
The portal provides access to health plan resources, including contact numbers like the 24/7 Nurse Advice Line.
Humana and Epic have announced a collaboration to bring Medicare Advantage insurance information into the Epic MyChart portal, allowing patients to view both clinical and insurance data on one platform.
This is the first time a health plan has integrated directly with the patient-facing portal.
Humana Medicare Advantage members using Epic’s MyChart will now be prompted to link their Humana plan. Once connected, users can access coverage details, benefits summaries, out-of-pocket progress, deductible tracking, and a digital ID card.
The portal also provides access to health plan resources, including contact numbers like the 24/7 Nurse Advice Line.
Previously, patients had to navigate multiple systems or rely on paper documents to retrieve medical records and insurance details, often complicating care decisions and payment planning.
"Accessing healthcare and understanding how it is paid for can be daunting for patients with varying deductibles and out-of-pocket costs for both in-network and out-of-network services based on health insurance plans," said George Renaudin, Humana’s president of insurance.
The new feature aims to reduce administrative friction by enabling members to view coverage alongside care plans, improving transparency, and helping them understand financial responsibilities in advance.
"Navigating healthcare can be complex, especially when information lives in different places," said Alan Hutchison, Epic’s vice president of population health and payer strategy.
Ongoing Industry Trends and Challenges
The announcement comes as Humana faces pressure following a drop in its Medicare Advantage plan’s CMS Star Ratings, from 4.5 to 3.5 in 2025. A federal judge recently dismissed Humana’s lawsuit against the U.S. government over the downgrade.
Meanwhile, experts indicate that tools providing clearer cost visibility and streamlined digital experiences are gaining importance in the healthcare sector. Enhanced integration between payers and providers is expected to support patient decision-making and retention, especially in competitive markets.
