The meeting further examined opportunities for the potential use of health data for informed healthcare planning and strengthening disease surveillance systems.

NHA CEO Dr Sunil Kumar Barnwal recently held discussions with Dr. Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister of Goa, focused on the implementation and further strengthening of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY) and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) in the State.

The high-level meeting focused on advancing Goa's digital health ecosystem through the State Digital Health Mission, with discussions centred on accelerating the adoption of digital health solutions across healthcare facilities and enhancing access to quality healthcare services.

Deliberations also explored ways to leverage resources and the ecosystem developed under PMJAY to strengthen digital health infrastructure in public healthcare institutions.

The meeting further examined opportunities for potential use of health data for informed healthcare planning, strengthening disease surveillance systems, and exploring the use of AI-enabled technologies to support evidence-based decision-making and improved health outcomes.

In a parallel development, the NHA CEO also addressed the State-Level Inaugural Workshop for the North Goa Model District Initiative under ABDM.

While addressing the event, Dr Barnwal emphasised that widespread adoption of digital health solutions is essential to realizing the full potential of India's digital health ecosystem.

He highlighted the need for healthcare facilities to transition from parallel paper-based and digital workflows to ABDM-enabled Hospital Management Information Systems HMIS.

This approach is expected to enable the seamless creation of ABHA-linked digital health records, reduce the documentation burden on healthcare professionals, improve operational efficiency, and allow doctors to devote more time to patient care.

Further, Dr. Barnwal underlined that interoperable and standardized digital health data is the foundation for the next wave of healthcare innovation.

As India advances the use of Artificial Intelligence in healthcare, high-quality digital health records will play a critical role in developing and validating AI solutions tailored to the Indian context, enabling better clinical decision-making and more informed public health planning, he noted.

Highlighting Goa's progress under ABDM, he noted the state is well-positioned to advance digital health transformation by accelerating the adoption of connected, interoperable, and citizen-centric healthcare systems.

According to reports, over 10 lakh residents in Goa have created their ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account), supporting the expansion of digital health services across the state.
