NHA CEO Sunil Barnwal Reviews ABDM, PMJAY Implementation During Manipur Visit

As part of the visit, Dr. Barnwal reviewed the on-ground implementation of ABDM and PMJAY at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal.

Dr. Sunil Barnwal, Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Authority (NHA), visited Manipur to review the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) and Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), while holding a series of meetings with the state's leadership to discuss strengthening healthcare delivery through digital health initiatives.

During the visit, Dr. Barnwal met Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh to discuss key priorities for strengthening healthcare delivery and advancing the State Digital Health Mission in the state.

During the meeting, Dr. Barnwal highlighted the transformative potential of the State Digital Health Mission in accelerating the adoption of digital health solutions across healthcare facilities and improving access to quality healthcare services.

He also met the Governor of Manipur, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, to discuss strengthening healthcare delivery through Ayushman Bharat initiatives.

The discussions focused on the role of digital health in improving healthcare delivery, strengthening disease surveillance, enabling data-driven decision-making, strengthening public healthcare institutions through PMJAY, and advancing digital health adoption under ABDM.

In a separate meeting with Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, Dr. Barnwal discussed the effective implementation of PMJAY and ABDM in the state.

The discussions centred on enhancing the adoption of digital health solutions, strengthening public healthcare infrastructure, capacity enhancement of public hospitals, and leveraging data-driven insights for improved health service delivery.

As part of the visit, Dr. Barnwal reviewed the on-ground implementation of ABDM and PMJAY at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal.

During the hospital visit, he interacted with beneficiaries and doctors to understand their experience with digital health services. He also witnessed a live demonstration of ABHA based Scan and Register OPD registration, observed the creation and linking of digital health records with ABHA, reviewed the integration of the Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) with hospital workflows, and assessed Ayushman Card generation and PMJAY beneficiary facilitation services.

Dr. Barnwal also reviewed the institute's information, education and communication (IEC) initiatives, highlighting the importance of awareness in driving greater adoption of digital health services and improving access to healthcare.

Addressing the Manipur ABDM Model Districts Workshop in Imphal West, Dr. Barnwal said, "While India has made significant strides in healthcare access, fragmented health records continue to impact continuity of care."

He further highlighted how ABDM is enabling secure and seamless integration of health records through ABHA, the Health Facility Registry (HFR), and the Healthcare Professionals Registry (HPR). He noted that the Model District and Model Health Facility initiatives are accelerating the transition towards fully digital and paperless healthcare systems.
