Meghalaya to Conduct Annual Survey for Data-Based Policies

Meghalaya to Conduct Annual Survey for Data-Based Policies

Scheduled for completion by January 2027, the survey is designed to facilitate data-driven healthcare planning by pinpointing major health trends and establishing priorities for interventions.

The State Health Systems Resource Centre (SHSRC) Meghalaya is set to implement an annual health survey to gather district-specific data on the health of the population and the utilisation of medical services.

This initiative serves as a strategic tool for identifying new health obstacles and enhancing the state's capacity for evidence-based planning and problem-solving at the local level. Designed to address existing disparities and facilitate evidence-based decision-making within the healthcare sector.

Officials stated that the survey will produce annual health reports for each district and a community wellness score. These resources are meant to help local leaders better understand and address health problems in their areas.

The SHSRC operates as a technical support division for the Meghalaya government, dedicated to bolstering the state's healthcare infrastructure to enhance overall public health.

The SHSRC has launched the Meghalaya Health Atlas, which serves as an extensive collection of essential health metrics categorized by district and demographic.

According to officials, this Atlas is designed to provide clear visual data to assist in evidence-based planning and identify critical areas that require immediate attention.

According to state health officials, the results will be essential for enhancing local planning, resolving issues, and delivering services, with a specific focus on tackling health challenges unique to different regions.

Beyond the health survey, the SHSRC has launched an Electronic Health Records (EHR) pilot program to address the persistent problem of disconnected patient information. This initiative seeks to establish consolidated digital records, enabling medical staff to view patient medical histories instantly and ensuring more consistent care.

Currently, this pilot project is operational at the Mawphlang and Ummulong Community Health Centres (CHC), as well as the Pomlum Primary Health Centre (PHC).
