The platform aims to make medicine selection simpler and cost-effective, helping patients stay on treatment without heavy financial burden.
Gujarat-based Medkart Pharmacy has launched India’s first comprehensive digital platform that allows consumers to compare branded medicines with high-quality generic alternatives.
The platform aims to make medicine selection simpler and cost-effective, helping patients stay on treatment without heavy financial burden.
Ankur Agarwal, Co-founder of Medkart Pharmacy, said “By launching this comparison engine, we're taking a significant step towards empowering consumers with the knowledge they need to make cost-effective choices.”
Users can input the name of any prescribed medicine and access a list of branded and generic substitutes.
As Parasharan Chari, Co-founder of Medkart, said, “If a diabetic patient has been prescribed Empagliflozin, they can simply search the brand name or the molecule name and get all the alternatives available, and compare the prices.”
He further added, “This will enable the consumer to make an informed decision and be rest assured of the quality as each generic medicine retailed on Medkart is from WHO-GMP certified manufacturers.”
The tool also includes a price comparison feature and supports multi-option evaluations for better decision-making.
Reportedly, Medikart served more than 11 lakh families, helping them save an estimated INR 650 Cr on medicine expenses till date.
The launch coincides with the Indian government’s ongoing push to promote generic medicines as a means to reduce healthcare costs.
The Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendra (PMBJK), launched under PMBJP by the Government of India, provides quality generic medicines at affordable prices through dedicated Kendras nationwide.
Operated by PMBI, these outlets offer drugs equivalent in efficacy to branded ones, often 50–90% cheaper.
