Medanta to Set Up 400-Bed Multi-Specialty Hospital in Varanasi with INR 550 Cr Investment

The upcoming hospital is expected to strengthen Medanta’s presence in Uttar Pradesh, where it already operates a 950-bed flagship facility in Lucknow and a 550-bed hospital in Noida.

Medanta has announced plans to set up a 400-bed multi-specialty hospital in Varanasi as part of its expansion strategy in Uttar Pradesh. The facility will be developed under a built-to-suit and lease agreement with Shripal Hospitality and other partners.

Under the arrangement, the partner will develop the hospital's civil infrastructure in line with Medanta’s specifications, while Medanta will invest approximately INR 550 crore in interior services, fit-outs, and medical equipment.

The upcoming hospital is expected to strengthen Medanta’s presence in Uttar Pradesh, where it already operates a 950-bed flagship facility in Lucknow and a 550-bed hospital in Noida.

With the addition of the Varanasi facility, the company’s total bed capacity in the state will increase to around 1,900.

According to Medanta, the expansion is aimed at addressing gaps in access to advanced healthcare services in Varanasi and surrounding regions. The city currently has limited availability of large tertiary care hospitals, with most existing facilities operating at capacities between 50 and 150 beds.

Chairman and Managing Director Dr. Naresh Trehan said the expansion is focused on improving access to advanced medical care in a densely populated region. Group CEO Pankaj Sahni noted that patients in Varanasi often travel to other cities for complex treatments due to limited local infrastructure.

The new facility is expected to cater to growing demand for specialized healthcare services and reduce the need for patient outmigration for advanced treatment.
