Major Step Towards Medical Affordability, Nagpur Set to Launch Low-Cost Diagnostic Hub
In addition to pricing, the centre has incorporated patient support systems such as help desks and assistance staff to improve service delivery.
Nagpur is set to get Central India’s largest low-cost diagnostic hub, with MRI scans priced at around INR 2,100 and CT scans at INR 900, positioning the facility as a major step toward affordable and accessible diagnostic care in the region.
The facility at Gangadharrao Fadnavis Memorial Diagnostic Centre is scheduled to be inaugurated this week, building on earlier plans to deliver diagnostic services at less than half the cost of private providers.
The project traces back to its foundation in 2023 and has been developed over two years to strengthen the affordable healthcare infrastructure.
The facility will be inaugurated by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, with Union minister Nitin Gadkari and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis among those expected to attend. Located on Wardha Road, the centre has been designed as a single-location diagnostic hub to streamline access to multiple services under one roof.
It is equipped with advanced imaging and diagnostic technologies, including a 3 Tesla MRI system, a 124-slice CT scanner, sonography units, X-ray services, and a full-scale pathology laboratory. A 25-bed dialysis unit has also been installed, with dedicated isolation beds to support infection control protocols.
The pricing model is central to the initiative, with X-rays expected to cost around INR 200 and dialysis sessions approximately INR 1,600, while eligible patients will be able to access free dialysis under schemes such as the Mahatma Phule Jan Arogya Yojana. Earlier project plans had indicated even lower dialysis pricing, reinforcing the centre’s long-standing focus on affordability.
Sandip Joshi, MLC, a key figure behind the project, said the facility addresses both cost and accessibility concerns. "Patients often face long waiting times for diagnostic tests. Here, turnaround time will be significantly faster," he said.
In addition to pricing, the centre has incorporated patient support systems such as help desks and assistance staff to improve service delivery.
Trial runs have been completed, and empanelment under the Central Government Health Scheme is expected within a month, which could further expand access.
