Lupin Launches ANYA, India’s First Patient-Focused Healthcare Chatbot for Disease Awareness

The chatbot is trained to provide information related to disease management, lifestyle considerations, and commonly asked questions, intended to complement clinical care by helping patients stay informed.

Pharmaceutical major Lupin has launched ANYA, India’s first chatbot developed specifically for patient disease awareness, aiming to provide medically verified information and support individuals in managing chronic health conditions, starting with diabetes.

The chatbot is trained to provide information related to disease management, lifestyle considerations, and commonly asked questions, while clearly maintaining that it does not replace a doctor’s diagnosis or clinical decision-making. Instead, it is intended to complement clinical care by helping patients stay informed and prepared for conversations with healthcare professionals.

“At Lupin, we continue to explore ways to integrate technology to support effective patient care. Chatbot as a technology has enormous potential to aid in medical assistance and to support in building awareness and breaking myths associated with various therapies. We are taking the first step to offer this AI-based chatbot for patients and health-givers, and we believe this will be a game-changer in the field of disease management in the future. This will also be a significant step in providing better access in rural markets as we adopt and launch digital healthcare platforms for better outreach,” said Rajeev Sibal, President - IRF, Lupin.

The launch comes at a time when India is facing a growing burden of lifestyle-related chronic diseases, particularly diabetes. According to widely cited epidemiological estimates, India had around 72 million people living with diabetes in 2017, a number projected to rise sharply to about 134 million by 2025.

As access to digital platforms increases, patients are increasingly seeking information online to understand and manage their conditions, though the availability of reliable, medically vetted sources remains uneven.

While diabetes is the first therapeutic area being addressed, Lupin has indicated that the platform is designed to expand into other disease areas as the knowledge base grows.

Currently, ANYA is hosted on Facebook Messenger and can be accessed by searching for @askanyabot, through Lupin’s ShapingHealth Facebook page, or via ANYA’s dedicated Facebook page.

By using a widely adopted messaging platform, Lupin aims to make the chatbot accessible to a broad audience, including users in semi-urban and rural areas.
