City Imaging Labs Launches 80-Slice AI-Enabled CT Scanner at Dwarka Centre

The installation is aimed at improving access to advanced imaging services for patients in Dwarka and neighbouring areas.

Delhi-based City Imaging & Clinical Labs has installed the uCT Orion Elite, an 80-slice AI-enabled multi-slice non-cardiac CT scanner, at its Dwarka centre.

According to the diagnostic chain, the installation marks India’s first such system from United Imaging.

The installation is aimed at improving access to advanced imaging services for patients in Dwarka and neighbouring areas.

Key Features of the CT System

The scanner combines deep-learning-based image enhancement, motion correction, and ECG-gated calcium scoring to expand diagnostic imaging capabilities.

The newly introduced system integrates DELTA, a deep-learning algorithm designed to improve image quality, with Karl3D hybrid iterative reconstruction technology.

It also features Motion Freeze AI to correct head movement-related distortions, dual AI cameras for patient positioning and monitoring, and automated image-quality checks.

The scanner’s Motion Freeze technology is designed to address rotational, translational, and oscillatory head movements that can cause image blurring.

The feature is expected to benefit scanning children, elderly patients, and individuals who experience difficulty remaining still because of pain or discomfort.

The DELTA uses deep-learning technology to reduce image noise and improve the visualisation of anatomical structures. According to United Imaging, its integration with Karl3D represents an industry-first combination in a CT system.

The scanner supports tube voltage settings from 60 kV to 140 kV and image reconstruction at a matrix size of 1024 × 1024.

The system also incorporates dual AI cameras and the Qcheck quality-control platform, which can flag potential issues such as patient movement, metal-related artefacts, respiratory motion, and scan-range errors.

Additional checks cover lead-apron use and possible gantry collisions, while trained technologists remain responsible for patient safety and scan quality.

The system also includes an AI-based feature that can flag head CT images that may indicate bleeding within the skull. The alert is intended to draw the operator’s attention to potentially urgent findings and support timely assessment.

The scanner’s ECG-gated calcium-scoring function identifies calcified areas and generates measurements, including calcium scores, volume, and mass calculations. Clinicians can interpret these results alongside patients’ age, medical history, and other cardiovascular risk factors.

By bringing AI-assisted imaging features, deep-learning-based motion correction, and ECG-gated calcium scoring together at one centre, the facility aims to provide patients access to a broader range of diagnostic services without necessarily having to visit separate facilities for these examinations.

Commenting on the new facility, Dr Aakar Kapoor, Founder, Partner and Consultant Radiologist, City Imaging & Clinical Labs, Delhi, said, “The focus of diagnostic imaging is not just on adopting advanced technology, but on making it clinically useful and accessible to patients. With the uCT Orion Elite, we are expanding our imaging capabilities while introducing calcium scoring on a non-cardiac CT platform. This reflects our approach to investing in technology that supports clinical assessment, strengthens diagnostic capabilities, and addresses a wider range of patient needs at a single centre.”
