Delhi to Open 70 More Arogya Ayushman Mandirs This Month, Total to Cross 200
The expansion covers 10 of the city’s 11 districts and is aimed at strengthening the primary care network.
The Delhi government will open 70 additional Arogya Ayushman Mandirs this month, taking the total number of operational clinics in the capital to more than 200, officials said on Thursday.
The expansion covers 10 of the city’s 11 districts and is aimed at strengthening the primary care network.
Delhi currently has around 168 Ayushman Mandirs. With the fresh rollout, the government expects these centres to become the backbone of community-level healthcare delivery. Officials also confirmed that health centres will no longer operate out of rented premises, as sufficient permanent spaces are now available for upcoming facilities.
Delhi Health Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said the administration is accelerating the scale-up of the clinics to ensure wider access.
“With these 70 new Arogya Ayushman Mandirs, we are taking quality primary healthcare directly to people’s neighbourhoods. Our goal is simple—no citizen should be left behind because of distance, cost, or lack of access,” Singh told PTI.
He noted that more centres are slated for completion in the coming months, with tenders already under way. “By early next year, every promised Mandir will be operational. We are expanding aggressively, and you will see these centres becoming the first point of care for lakhs of Delhi residents,” he said.
According to officials, the new clinics will be inaugurated across multiple neighbourhoods, including Sarai Kale Khan dispensary area, Khizrabad, Nehru Place, Okhla, Darya Ganj, Gautam Nagar, Hauz Khas, Shahpur, Burari, and Jahangirpuri. Several other locations are also in the rollout list. An additional 187 clinics are expected to begin operations by December 31.
The Arogya Ayushman Mandirs are being positioned as upgraded versions of the earlier Mohalla Clinics. Unlike the older model, the new centres will offer a wider range of services, including OPD consultations, free medicines, diagnostic tests, maternal and child healthcare, geriatric support, mental health services, and dental care. Officials said each centre will include modern technology tools and expanded clinical infrastructure.
The government has announced plans to establish a total of 1,139 such clinics in phases—some through the conversion of existing Mohalla Clinics and others through new construction.
