Delhi to Add 1,300+ Beds, 7 ICU Hospitals; INR 860 Cr Infra Boost Coming

The Delhi government is building 11 new hospitals, including 7 with ICU facilities, and expanding at least 13 health centers using a mix of public-private and government-funded models.

Delhi is pushing forward with a massive upgrade of its health and transport infrastructure, with over 1,300 new government hospital beds set to go live soon and INR 860 Cr worth of projects in the pipeline.

At a recent high-level review meeting, Public Works Department (PWD) officials briefed Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on the status of key projects. Four hospitals, including Acharya Shree Bhikshu, Dada Dev, Guru Gobind Singh, and Sanjay Gandhi Memorial, are nearly complete, with furniture installation and fire approvals in the final stages.

These projects were initially launched under the AAP government in 2019-20 but were stalled due to funding issues.

Now, the Delhi government is reviving them while also building 11 new hospitals, including 7 with ICU facilities, and expanding at least 13 health centers using a mix of public-private and government-funded models.

Meanwhile, court infrastructure projects in Shastri Park, Rohini, and Karkardooma are lagging, primarily due to high groundwater and pending design finalizations.

On the transport front, the city has sought INR 953 Cr from the Center to repair 400 km of roads affected by rains and poor upkeep. An additional INR 1,000 Cr from the Urban Development Fund is being requested to fast-track flyovers, underpasses, and other pending works.

Two major flyovers at Modi Mill and Savitri Cinema junctions, notorious for congestion, have been cleared for construction at a combined cost of INR 412 Cr.
