Deepinder Goyal Raises $54 Mn for Brain-Monitoring Wearable Startup Temple

Weeks after stepping down as CEO of Zomato and its parent Eternal, Deepinder Goyal has raised $54 million for Temple, a wearable technology startup focused on monitoring brain activity in elite athletes. The funding round values Temple at approximately $190 million post-money.

Goyal disclosed the raise in a post on X, stating that the capital came through a friends-and-family round backed by founder peers and early Zomato investors. More than 30 employees also participated in the round at the same valuation. Regulatory filings reviewed by TechCrunch indicate that Goyal is leading the investment, followed by Steadview Capital.

Other investors include Peak XV Partners, InfoEdge Ventures, and Dharana Capital, along with angel investors such as Vijay Shekhar Sharma, Kunal Shah, and Nithin Kamath.

Temple is developing a high-performance wearable designed to sit on the wearer’s temple and continuously track cerebral blood flow. In a January conversation with podcaster Raj Shamani, Goyal described the device as a sensor aimed at capturing metrics not currently measured by existing wearables.

The startup is entering a competitive global wearables market dominated by companies such as Whoop, Oura, and Garmin, which focus on sleep, recovery, and athletic performance tracking.

Goyal stepped down in January, handing over leadership of Zomato and Eternal to Albinder Dhindsa, who leads the quick-commerce unit Blinkit. The move marked a shift after nearly two decades at the helm of the food delivery platform he co-founded in 2008.

Temple is part of a broader pivot in Goyal’s investment focus toward high-risk technology ventures. In October 2025, he committed $25 million of personal capital to Continue Research, a venture exploring lifespan extension. He is also a co-founder of aviation startup LAT Aerospace, which recently expanded into defense technology through the acquisition of early-stage firm Sharang Shakti.

Goyal declined to comment further on Temple’s roadmap or commercialization timeline.
