In the months ahead, PMCH is expected to roll out super-specialty departments, including cardiology, oncology, and neurology.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has inaugurated a new 1,117-bed hospital section.
The newly launched section is housed in Towers 1 and 2 of the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) building, part of the PMCH Redevelopment Project Phase 1.
Reportedly, both the towers have 10 OPD and emergency wards, which have been equipped with high-tech equipment worth INR 160 Cr.
Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Kumar Sinha and Samrat Choudhary were also present at the event.
The new building features 65 automated ICU beds, 44 post ICU beds, 100 private rooms, 10 deluxe rooms and 2 exclusive suites.
Sharing the update on X, Dy CM Sinha wrote, "Both the towers have state-of-the-art 10 OPD and emergency wards, which have been equipped with high-tech equipment worth Rs 160 crores. This new form of PMCH will not only improve the health of Bihar but will also prove to be a healthcare model for the entire Bihar. Welcome to this new era of healthcare! Now the compulsion to go out for treatment is over, better and cheaper treatment will be available in Bihar itself."
Officials stated that the newly inaugurated infrastructure at PMCH marks a significant move towards developing the facility into an AI-enabled, smart healthcare hub.
In the months ahead, PMCH is expected to roll out super-specialty departments, including cardiology, oncology, and neurology. Additionally, the hospital will see the establishment of advanced laboratories, trauma centres, and multispecialty operation theatres.
CM Nitish highlighted that the redevelopment is part of a broader effort to upgrade healthcare services throughout Bihar, with medical colleges and hospitals being established across nearly every district.
He also noted that once fully completed, PMCH will become the second-largest hospital in the world.
The transformation is being carried out under an INR 5,540 Cr redevelopment project, which will eventually see the hospital equipped with 5,462 beds and a helipad for air ambulance services to manage emergency cases.
