ChristianaCare Appoints Jenn Schwartz as CEO, Janice Nevin to Retire in September

The Delaware-based nonprofit health system said Schwartz, currently executive vice president and chief strategy officer, was selected following an internal succession process.

ChristianaCare has named Jenn Schwartz as its next president and chief executive officer, with the leadership transition set for September 1, when current CEO Dr. Janice Nevin will retire after more than a decade in the role.

The Delaware-based nonprofit health system said Schwartz, currently executive vice president and chief strategy officer, was selected following an internal succession process. She will assume leadership on the same day Nevin steps down.

Nevin has led ChristianaCare since 2014 and has been with the organization since 2002, when she joined as chair of the department of family and community medicine. Over the years, she held multiple leadership roles, including chief medical officer and executive director of the Wilmington campus, before becoming CEO.

During her tenure, ChristianaCare reported steady financial growth. The health system’s net income increased from $152 million in 2014 to $272 million in fiscal year 2025, which ended June 30. The organization has also expanded its footprint across Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.

In 2025, ChristianaCare acquired five outpatient locations from Crozer Health following its parent company Prospect Medical Holdings’ bankruptcy. The system also explored a potential merger with Virtua Health last year but ended discussions in December.

Schwartz joined ChristianaCare in 2018 as chief legal officer and later took on expanded responsibilities, including strategy and enterprise-wide planning. She was appointed chief strategy and legal officer in 2019 and was promoted earlier this year to executive vice president, overseeing areas such as value-based care, ambulatory growth, clinical integration, partnerships, and regional expansion.

Her appointment comes as health systems across the U.S. continue to focus on outpatient expansion and integrated care delivery models.
