CHAKRA & Telemedicine Society of India Join Hands to Strengthen Digital Health Education Across India

Centre for Health, Applied Knowledge and Research Autonomy (CHAKRA) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Telemedicine Society of India to advance digital health education and capacity building in India.
The collaboration, formalized through an MoU signed on June 15, 2026, has brought together the expertise of both organizations to promote technology-enabled healthcare learning and build future-ready healthcare professionals.
Established as an initiative of the Government of Maharashtra's Medical Education and Drugs Department, CHAKRA focuses on strengthening healthcare systems through capacity building, research, innovation, and digital transformation.
The organization works to enhance healthcare delivery by promoting knowledge sharing and developing competencies that support modern healthcare practices.
For more than two decades, the Telemedicine Society of India has played an important role in advancing telemedicine and digital health across the country.
The professional body has contributed to national telemedicine guidelines, encouraged collaborations with domestic and international stakeholders, and built a multidisciplinary network of clinicians, researchers, technologists, and policymakers.
Its initiatives have consistently supported the wider adoption of digital technologies to improve healthcare accessibility and quality.
Under the partnership, both organizations will work together to design scalable educational programmes, strengthen academic collaborations, and promote research in digital health.
The initiative is expected to benefit students, healthcare professionals, educational institutions, and the broader healthcare ecosystem by improving digital competencies and supporting innovation in healthcare delivery.
The collaboration also aligns with India's broader vision of building a digitally empowered healthcare system by creating a workforce equipped to adopt emerging technologies and deliver patient-centric care.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Dheeraj Kumar (IAS), Sandeep Dhakane, Deputy Secretary, Medical Education and Drugs Department (MEDD), Government of Maharashtra, and Suvarna Kharat, Joint Secretary, MEDD, Government of Maharashtra, and Director of Haffkine.
The Telemedicine Society of India was represented by Dr Umashankar S, Secretary, TSI; Dr Krishna Kumar, Treasurer, TSI; and Dr Arti Pawaria, Academic Committee Member, TSI. CHAKRA's delegation included Dr Ranjana Kumar, Chief Executive Officer; Brig (Dr) Subodh Mulgund, Chief Administrative Officer; Maj Dr Ashlesha Tawde-Kelkar, Consultant, Digital Health; and Dr Madhura Bhosale, Assistant Professor, Digital Health.
Both organizations have expressed their commitment to working together to shape a more capable, digitally empowered healthcare workforce and to advance the future of digital health education in India.
