Andhra Pradesh to Take Sanjeevani Digital Health Records Statewide Within a Year: Naidu

The Chief Minister also requested that the expert committee lead the state as a leader in using artificial intelligence and digital health records for delivering public health.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has announced that the Sanjeevani digital health records would be expanded, beyond the Kuppam pilot, with support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, to strengthen AI-driven health care delivery across Andhra Pradesh within a year.

The programme is being carried forward with the current pilot in Kuppam, Chittoor district, with support from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to create comprehensive digital health records for the entire population.

The Kuppam pilot demonstrated a proof of concept regarding how digitised medical data, linked with artificial intelligence, can enable better disease surveillance, early diagnosis, and cost-effective care.

In the wake of its results, the digital health record under Sanjeevani is being extended by the government to all districts, covering residents both in urban and rural areas.

During a review of health initiatives at the state Secretariat, Naidu said that rather than treatment, the effort should be on preventive healthcare.

He said digital health records would give indications about the top ten diseases affecting the residents and facilitate policy decision-making in pinpointing the interventions and reducing the overall medical burden.

The Chief Minister added that technology-driven insights facilitate efficient allocation of public health resources as well.

Naidu stated that the success of Sanjeevani and other similar initiatives in digital health records depends upon proper implementation at the local level. He added that grassroots execution would determine whether the benefits of digital healthcare truly trickle down to citizens.

The Chief Minister also requested that the expert committee lead the state as a leader in using artificial intelligence and digital health records for delivering public health.

Srikanth Nadhamuni, founder of Khosla Labs, observed that “AI-enabled health services are becoming central to public healthcare delivery,” while NABH Chairperson Dr Rizwan Koita said that Andhra Pradesh is fast emerging as a hub for digital healthcare innovation.

According to the reports, the Gates Foundation India Country Director Archana Vyas remarked that an action plan would be prepared based on the recommendations of the experts, proposing a specific health secretariat to track and monitor public health outcomes related to digital health records.

Naidu directed the officials to hold consultations with experts every six months to ensure continuous evaluation and improvement of the Sanjeevani programme and other digital health initiatives.
