As part of Siemens Healthineers’ portfolio realignment, the company has been pursuing a sale of AOI, a process first reported in May.
American Oncology Institute (AOI) has moved closer to a change in ownership as Siemens Healthineers has advanced the sale process for its oncology hospital network. The INR 1,500 Cr transaction has attracted two leading bidders and is expected to be finalized by mid-August.
One is a consortium comprising global investment firm General Atlantic and Hyderabad-based Renova Hospitals. The second is Indian-American entrepreneur Raj Mantena's Cancer Centers of America (CCA), which is also competing to acquire the oncology network.
Sridhar Peddireddy, founder of Renova Hospitals, confirmed that his group is participating in the bidding process and outlined the strategic rationale behind the proposed acquisition.
"Almost 80% of the AOI's hospitals are in places where we don't have a presence. So, it's a strategic decision for us, where General Atlantic will remain our financial partner," Sridhar Peddireddy, Founder of Renova Hospitals, said.
Siemens Healthineers became the owner of Hyderabad-based American Oncology Institute after acquiring US-based Varian Medical Systems in a $16.4 Bn deal in 2021.
While the acquisition significantly strengthened Siemens Healthineers' position in cancer care technology, the hospital operations inherited through the transaction have remained outside its core business strategy.
As part of its portfolio realignment, the company has been pursuing a sale of AOI, a process first reported in May.
American Oncology Institute has established a presence across multiple cities in India through a network of cancer hospitals and outpatient centres.
The organization offers medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, precision diagnostics, and advanced cancer treatment technologies.
Its footprint in several underserved markets has made it an attractive acquisition target for healthcare providers seeking to expand oncology services beyond metropolitan regions.
