Vedanta’s BALCO Medical Centre Partners with Foundations to Advance Technology for Early Breast Cancer Detection
The collaborations aim to strengthen breast health awareness, support risk assessment, and improve access to timely diagnosis, particularly among women in resource-constrained settings.
Vedanta’s BALCO Medical Centre (BMC) in Naya Raipur, Chhattisgarh, has entered into two partnerships to expand technology-enabled approaches to early breast cancer detection.
The initiatives will introduce multilingual digital guidance for breast self-examination and support the development of an AI-based tool to identify women who may need further screening.
The partnerships have been established with Switzerland-based non-profit The DEAR Foundation and the Translational AI for Networked Universal Healthcare (TANUH) Foundation at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.
The collaborations aim to strengthen breast health awareness, support risk assessment, and improve access to timely diagnosis, particularly among women in resource-constrained settings.
Under its agreement with The DEAR Foundation, BALCO Medical Centre will promote the use of Dear You, a free mobile application designed to help women become more familiar with their breast health.
The app provides step-by-step guidance on breast self-examination in 11 languages, including Hindi, and sends reminders to encourage regular self-checks.
In a separate collaboration, BALCO Medical Centre and the TANUH Foundation will work on developing an AI-enabled screening tool to assess breast cancer risk and help identify women who may require further evaluation through mammography.
TANUH, an AI Centre of Excellence in Healthcare at IISc Bengaluru established by the Ministry of Education, will collaborate with BMC on the technology development.
BALCO Medical Centre will contribute clinical and mammography data, with patient confidentiality maintained during the process.
The proposed screening model will be tailored to Indian women, with the aim of supporting earlier identification of potential breast cancer cases and making screening more affordable.
By helping prioritise women who may need mammography, the technology could support more targeted use of available diagnostic resources.
BALCO Medical Centre, established by Vedanta in Naya Raipur, provides cancer diagnosis and treatment services to patients in Central India. The latest initiatives add digital awareness and AI-based screening development to its efforts to strengthen breast health services.
