In a significant move towards enhancing cancer care in Nagpur, the American Oncology Institute (AOI) at Nangia Specialty Hospital has unveiled a dedicated Lung Cancer Unit.
The unit, inaugurated by Dr Deepak Muthreja, consultant pulmonologist, AOI Nangia Specialty Hospital, stands as a comprehensive effort to diagnose and manage lung cancer effectively.

Commenting on the same, Dr Amit Dhawan, regional chief operating officer (RCOO) of American Oncology Institute, Nagpur, said, "Recognising the significance of lung cancer as a health concern, our goal is to provide patients in Nagpur and surrounding areas access to advanced diagnostics, treatments, and compassionate care under one roof."
Dr Muthreja further said, the approach at the Lung Cancer Unit focuses on individualised care, with a multi-disciplinary discussion platform ensuring thorough case reviews by a team of experts. This collective decision-making process aims to provide the best possible treatment strategies for improved outcomes.
Lung cancer, a leading cause of cancer-related deaths globally, has seen an uptick in Nagpur due to factors including smoking, environmental pollutants, and changing lifestyles.
Commenting on the same, Dr Hrushikesh Phate, facility director of AOI Nangia Specialty Hospital, Nagpur, underlined, "The rise in lung cancer cases in Nagpur underscores the need for specialised care, early detection, and advanced treatment strategies. Our team is dedicated to offering top-notch care using the latest technologies, committed to improving outcomes and enhancing overall well-being."
The unit conducts comprehensive evaluations, including advanced imaging, precise pathology assessments, and genetic profiling, enabling personalised treatment plans. It also focuses on raising awareness about lung cancer prevention, early detection, and the importance of smoking cessation programs.
In a related development, the American Oncology Institute (AOI) at Nangia Specialty Hospital recently inaugurated a state-of-the-art Bone Marrow and Hematology Unit.
The unit, inaugurated by Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, and Dr Vijay Kumar Vemuri, Group COO – CTSI, caters to patients with complex blood disorders and blood cancers, offering a range of modalities under one roof.
