Maharashtra government has announced plans to develop a state-level Living Lab to test healthcare innovations, improve quality standards, and develop solutions based on community needs.

Conceptualised by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, the proposed platform will identify local healthcare priorities, develop solutions in consultation with communities, and test new approaches within the existing healthcare system.

It aims to improve healthcare service quality and compliance with quality standards while exploring opportunities for skill development and employment in the state.

The Living Lab will bring together the state government, healthcare providers, private-sector organisations, academic institutions, innovators and development partners.

Various stakeholders are expected to help develop practical, affordable, and accessible solutions tailored to local needs.

The collaboration is intended to strengthen existing health systems, improve treatment pathways and develop practical, affordable and accessible solutions tailored to local needs.

Further, the initiative will explore technologies including artificial intelligence (AI), digital health, data analytics and precision health.

The platform seeks to assess how solutions can address healthcare priorities and improve service delivery, particularly for people in remote areas and underserved communities.

The programme will also generate evidence from the testing of interventions and assess their potential for wider adoption across Maharashtra and beyond.

Solutions demonstrating improvements in healthcare quality and equity could be considered for expansion.

It aims to test solutions through collaboration among the government, communities, innovators, and partners, analyse the findings, and scale up approaches that improve healthcare quality and equity.

The Living Lab will serve as a platform for generating evidence and fostering collaboration, with community needs and local ownership at its core.

It is also intended to strengthen coordination between innovators, the healthcare system, and frontline service providers.

Further, the MSD for Mothers initiative is coordinating the effort and bringing together partners to develop the collaborative model.
