Outro Raises $7M to Expand Neuroscience-Based Psychiatric Medication Tapering Platform
The company plans to use the capital to expand its licensed clinician network, extend its geographic reach beyond 14 US states, and develop tapering protocols for additional psychiatric drug categories.
Outro, a NYC-based provider of an integrated deprescribing platform, has raised $7 million in combined pre-seed and seed funding to expand its neuroscience-based platform for helping patients discontinue psychiatric medications under clinical supervision. The company plans to use the capital to expand its licensed clinician network, extend its geographic reach beyond 14 US states, and develop tapering protocols for additional psychiatric drug categories.
The funding round includes participation from Listen Ventures, Cake Ventures, Jason Calacanis’s LAUNCH, Actions Capital, Hannah Grey VC, SemperVirens, Brock Recovery Group, Pave Health Ventures, and Pave Health Ventures, along with other strategic digital health investors.
Founded by digital health entrepreneur Brandon Goode and clinical researcher Dr. Mark Horowitz, Outro combines specialized clinical care, individualized medication tapering schedules, remote symptom monitoring, and psychosocial counseling through a virtual outpatient model.
Outro Uses Hyperbolic Tapering to Guide Medication Discontinuation
The company's flagship Taper Management program is currently available across 14 US states. It integrates clinicians trained in psychiatric medication deprescribing with evidence-informed tapering protocols and ongoing patient support.
The platform uses hyperbolic tapering, an approach in which medication doses are reduced by progressively smaller increments as the dose decreases. The method accounts for the nonlinear relationship between drug dosage and receptor occupancy, which can influence how patients respond to medication reductions.
Horowitz's research has focused on the neurobiology of psychiatric medication withdrawal and the application of hyperbolic tapering to support discontinuation. Outro aims to translate this research into structured clinical services for patients seeking to stop or reduce their medications.
Funding to Expand Clinical Services and Medication Coverage
Outro plans to expand its clinical network and extend its tapering programs beyond selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs). Planned areas of expansion include benzodiazepines, sleep medications, and antipsychotics, which may require carefully managed dose reductions.
The funding comes as US health authorities pay more attention to evidence-based approaches to discontinuing psychiatric medications. According to the announcement, the US Department of Health and Human Services prioritized developing national deprescribing guidelines in 2026, in collaboration with the American Psychiatric Association and the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology.
“Today, patients are asking a different question: if starting medication deserves support, why does stopping often happen without it?” said Goode, co-founder and CEO of Outro.
He added that the company aims to provide structured support for medication discontinuation, an area he said has received less attention than treatment initiation.
